One of our favorite student trips is the Biltmore House! We’re so proud that North Carolina is home to this gorgeous piece of history. The luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt is a marvel of elegance and charm, as magnificent today as it was over a century ago. Students see displays of vintage clothing, accessories, art, furniture that illustrate the lives of the Vanderbilt family, their guests, and employees.
But another fascinating part of George Vanderbilt’s masterpiece includes his early embrace of technology. He constructed the Biltmore House with electricity and an internal telephone system. Biltmore also boasted an electronic bell system to summon servants, with ivory push buttons in major rooms; two electric elevators; and an indoor swimming pool with underwater electric lights!
On a recent trip to the Biltmore, students from Pinewood Christian Academy enjoyed learning about innovations at the Biltmore House. They also decided it wasn’t too shabby to live there, if you like that kind of thing.
